Chapter 7: My Introduction to the Kingdom of God
2 Timothy 1:9 (KJV): Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.
During the decade of pain and turmoil I described in the Setting the Scene series, I remember so many moments where I broke down in tears, crying out into thin air:
“There has to be more than this.”
“Why is life so hard?”
“Surely it’s not supposed to be like this.”
What I was really asking — though I didn’t yet have the language for it — was this:
What is the purpose of life?
And more personally, what is my purpose?
Life felt like something to be endured — struggle, survive, grow old, then die. Completely pointless. A life of joy, wealth and abundance felt reserved for other people. Envy and judgement surface easily when you believe purpose belongs elsewhere.
What Is the Purpose of Life — and What Is My Purpose Within God’s Original Plan?
As I mentioned in earlier chapters, my thirst abated after I found God and was baptised, but the hunger lingered. I still wasn’t fulfilled, even with all the teachings I was listening to.
So I stopped praying for “things.”
Instead, I began asking for wisdom.
I asked to get to know Him – to be closer to Him.
Through the Prophet, one of the first things our God gave me was vision. He showed me the endgame — where He was taking me.
When vision becomes clear, focus follows.
When focus comes, momentum begins.
However, vision alone does not answer the deeper question: What is my purpose in life?
In The Power of a Visionary series, I shared how God revealed the vision to me — the destination.
But although I had the vision, I did not yet understand my purpose. I certainly did not understand my assignment. There is a difference.
Vision answers where you are going.
Purpose answers why you exist.
Assignment defines what you are responsible for within that purpose.
At that stage, I knew the destination — but not the foundation beneath it.
The Prophet also taught us that any vision aligned with the Kingdom of God cannot fail. At first, I thought that meant aligning with Scripture, tithing faithfully, and supporting the work of the Church. I believed that if my actions were right, the vision would unfold.
But I had not yet asked the most important question: If I do not understand God’s original purpose for mankind, how can I truly understand my own?
That is when something deeper began to unfold.
A chance encounter with a complete stranger in a small hotel in South Asia in September — and remember, September represents new beginnings — changed the direction of my thinking.
I still cannot explain how bumping into this gentleman whilst ordering a coffee turned into a conversation about our loving God. But I vividly remember being startled by his broad East End London accent — completely unexpected when you’re in the middle of nowhere – halfway across the world.
Within minutes, we were engrossed in conversation about the Kingdom of God — not religion, not rituals, but the Kingdom itself and what it truly represents.
It became clear he was deeply connected — someone placed in my path at precisely the right moment.
He gave me a list of teachers to listen to so I could discern everything for myself. I haven’t even moved beyond the first one yet, because within minutes of hearing that first teaching, something in my spirit ignited.
This was the wisdom I had been longing for.
Not just about my future.
Not just about vision.
But how it relates to God’s original purpose.
And once I began to understand His purpose, my own started to make sense.
How Do I Find My Purpose?
That question sounds simple, but it cannot be answered in isolation.
Purpose is not discovered by looking inward first — it is discovered by understanding the One who designed it. Our Creator.
For years I had asked, “What is my purpose?”
But I had never asked, “What was God’s original purpose before Genesis 1:1?”
Think about it: how can we understand ourselves and our purpose if we do not first truly understanding Him and His purpose – His original purpose for creating us.
If I do not understand His original intention, how can I understand my place within it?
That is when everything began to align.
And it begins with one foundational truth.
God’s Original Purpose Begins with an Idea
Everything begins with an idea. Ideas are the source of everything.
The chair you sit on was once an idea.
The shoes on your feet were once an idea.
Every invention, every system — began as a thought.
Every action is preceded by a thought – an idea.
If you ever want to understand why someone does something, you must understand their thinking.
And if we are seeking to understand what the purpose of life truly is, we must seek to understand God’s original thought — His precept.
King David longed for that same understanding.
Psalm 119:27 (KJV): Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works.
Psalm 119:45 (KJV): And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.
A precept is a direction laid down in advance — a guiding thought before action. A precept leads to a concept – an idea.
So if I want to understand me, I must understand Him. To understand Him, firstly I need to know His precept.
What was the guiding principle that led to the concept of creation?
What was God’s original idea before Genesis 1:1?
Because once you begin to understand His original purpose, your own purpose stops feeling mysterious.
It becomes intentional.
Join me on my journey to fully understand why we are here and what your God-given purpose is.
You will need an open mind and to forget any preconceptions you have had in the past. This is not about religion, but be born again with a childlike mind, to see where the Spirit leads you in discovering God’s original purpose for us, and in doing so, discover what is your purpose within His original design.
Let’s get into God’s head!
Until then, Dear Readers….All Glory Goes to God.
